Hybrid Presence and Collaboration in European Networks for Agile Work Practices
Motivation
Working from home today, in the office tomorrow, and on a train the day after – hybrid work has become an integral part of our professional lives. In complex and innovative work environments where agile methods are applied, it is particularly crucial that collaboration is based on mutual trust. However, for this to happen, colleagues who are virtually connected must be perceived as full members of the team. Currently, hybrid work environments do not sufficiently support this: The perceived presence and active participation of those physically present in the office often exceed that of online participants, leading to a socio-technical asymmetry.
Goals and Approach
PRAESCO aims to address this challenge. The project focuses on the work-scientific exploration of these asymmetries in two specific hybrid work settings: structured meetings and unstructured office collaboration. Methodologically, a portable, interactive device will be developed as a demonstrator. This device will serve as a basis for linking empirical findings on everyday hybrid collaboration with the requirements of experienced industry partners regarding agile teamwork. The results will be translated into design concepts for trust-based hybrid work environments.
Innovations and Perspectives
The goal is to create new opportunities for more active and seamless collaboration despite physical separation—both in hybrid meetings and conferences as well as in agile project sprints. The focus lies on comprehensive, work-scientific measures that sustainably strengthen collaboration along complex international value chains. The development follows a sustainable low-tech approach, fostering an inclusive hybrid work environment and enhancing participation in professional life.
